U.S. dollars are counted out by a banker counting currency at a bank in Westminster, Colorado November 3, 2009. A typical 60/40 portfolio - one that holds 60% in stocks and 40% in bonds - would have returned 9.6% in November, the most since December 1991, which saw the dissolution of the USSR, BofA said. They cautioned though: "pull backs follow monster months" and such a portfolio lost 3.2% in the first quarter of 1992. (.MIWD00000PUS)The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note fell 52 basis points in the month, its most since 2011. A bond's yield moves inversely to its price.

With signs of turn emerging in Federal Reserve policy guidance and October PCE inflation readings set to encourage that later in the day, rate cut fever was in full flow across the Atlantic too. Headline annual inflation in the bloc fell as low as 2.4% - within arm's length of the ECB's 2% target. Later on Thursday, U.S. PCE inflation for the prior month is pencilled to fall 3.0% from 3.4% - with a core also ebbing to 3.5%. "Monetary policy is in a good place," Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester said on Wednesday, echoing comments from previously hawkish Fed governor Christopher Waller the previous day.

A street sign for Wall Street is seen in the financial district in New York, U.S., November 8, 2021. But back in the markets, the Fed's policy pivot was all the rage as Treasury yields and dollar plunged anew. New York Fed chief John Williams said long-term inflation expectations were anchored, reassuring and "remarkably stable". Fed futures now have the first Fed rate cut of a quarter point fully priced for May and 110bps of rate cuts by year-end. Two-year Treasury yields plunged more than 15 basis points to four-month lows of 4.66% on Wednesday, with 10-year yields hitting their lowest since mid-September - a startling drop of more than 75bps in little over a month.

The New Zealand dollar was last up 1.1% at a four-month high of $0.6207, having blown past resistance. The U.S. dollar, meanwhile, slid to fresh multi-month lows on the euro, yen, sterling, the Australian dollar, yuan and Swiss franc. Overnight Fed Governor Christopher Waller - an influential and previously hawkish voice at the U.S. central bank - told the American Enterprise Institute that rate cuts could begin in a matter of months, provided inflation keeps falling. Fed funds futures rallied on the remark to price more than hundred basis points of cuts in 2024 and 40% chance they begin as soon as March. Stocks to outperform fixed income in 2024, says Barclays

REUTERS/Caitlin Ochs/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 16 (Reuters) - Global equities are set to outperform core fixed-income assets next year, as threats of a global economic slowdown have declined, Barclays strategists said in a note on Thursday. We think stocks will benefit from a fairly benign bottom to this business cycle and look through near-term earnings disappointments," said Ajay Rajadhyaksha, global chairman of research at Barclays. "We now turn overweight (on) global equities over core fixed income." Barclays expects mid-to-high single-digit equity returns in both the U.S. and Europe next year, even as bond yields stay elevated. JP Morgan had recommended commodities over stocks and bonds.
